Welcome back to all the members
of Saint George, Altoona living in the area who have been
with us, and welcome to any newcomers to the greater
Happy Valley area. In response to requests from
participants in the series on Sacred Scripture we
completed during Great Lent, we will meet again this Fall
starting Sunday, September 13 at 7:00 PM at 124 North
Church Street in Boalsburg.
The topic for the study group
that will last until Sunday evening, October 4 will be
"The Orthodox Christian Theology of Marriage." We will
examine both historical and contemporary issues
surrounding this Mystery, and make some comparisons to
both Catholic and Protestant views that will hopefully be
of help to anyone, young or old, who wishes to understand
how the Church has pondered the meaning of a relationship
that is at one and the same time, common to all human
cultures, but that has a complex and profound meaning as
an icon of Christ's own relationship to the Church.
We will meet promptly at 7:00 and pray
Little Compline together, turn to the study, and as
before, try to be sure that everyone can be underway by
8:30 P.M. I will be providing some preliminary reading
and a guide before the first meeting.
Just a reminder as well: Our Bishop,
His Grace Thomas Joseph will make his annual visitation
to St. George parish the weekend of September 18-20.
Please make every attempt to keep your calendars open so
that you can participate in both the liturgical services
as well as the social events of the weekend.
Sincerely in Christ,
Deacon Gregory
Diakonissa Patricia
